We invite you and your family to join us at St. Philip’s, where children’s spiritual growth and well-being are at the heart of what we do.
Our vibrant children’s programming is designed to nurture your child’s faith, character, and sense of belonging in a supportive and loving community. With engaging service projects, interactive lessons, and caring leaders, we provide a safe and joyful space for kids to explore their faith and grow in God’s love.
We’d love to meet you and your family! Join us or reach out for more information about our children’s ministry. Let’s journey together in faith and see your children thrive!
Below are the programs we offer:
Nursery
We warmly welcome children in our church services (excitable toddlers are especially welcome!). We believe children benefit from the rhythms of worship, learning how to pray and experiencing the holy wonder of being in our beautiful sanctuary. However, we also understand that sometimes parents need a break! So, we also offer a nursery during our 10:15 service if parents prefer that. Our nursery is always staffed by at least two adults. The nursery is located to the right-hand side of Wyatt Hall (the building on the left, if you are standing on Main Street looking at the church).
Youth Formation
Godly Play (Pre-K to 5th Grades)
Godly Play is a Montessori based approach to spiritual formation that involves storytelling, prayer, art, and liturgy which serve as an introduction to the life of faith, the rhythm of worship and religious language. It is a wonderful way for children to learn about the mystery of faith and God, and grow in their familiarity of bible stories and lessons behind them.
Classes are held every Sunday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 am in our special Godly Play classroom, which is located in the basement of the Admin Wing (building to the right, if you are standing on Main Street looking at the church). The best place to enter is through the doors to the McKee Room, which is the small building in-between the Sanctuary and the Admin Wing.
401 Club (6th to 12th Grades)
The 401 Club is a lively group of our youth who gather for service, support of other ministries, and having Holy Fun! We alternate between service projects and group outings – all chosen and designed by our youth. Examples of service projects include fundraising for our Little Chapel Food Pantry, environmental clean ups, and preparing lunches for Elizabeth House to be given to hungry people in our community. Each year we hold a Church Lock-in – a favorite among our youth.
Camp St Philip’s
K-12th grades
Camp St Philip's is a one week ALL DAY summer camp adventure, typically held the week after July 4th. Designed to ease the burden on working parents, we are in session from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, with before and after camp care available. We usually have one all day field trip to an exciting destination related to the camp’s theme. Registration is available for campers as young as those entering Kindergarten in the next school year. Middle and high schoolers are invited to serve as camp counselors. This is known as one of the most affordable day camps in the greater Laurel area, so sign up early.
Registration forms will be available at St Philip's beginning in March and will be posted to our website as well.
Confirmation
St. Philip’s offers Confirmation Preparation sessions for youth (age 13 and up) and people of all ages who are interested in deepening and confirming their faith. Confirmation is held at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. We typically hold confirmation sessions once per year. If you are interested, please contact Rev. Robert Bunker at rev.bunker@gmail.com.
